Objects, Antiques and Antiquities

Any article on "contemporary Victorian furniture" is, by definition, an article about antiques today! Victorian magazines were also filled with articles on "curiosities" of the current day and of "antiquity," such as sundials, figureheads, and even such relatively commonplace items as cradles. This is the place to look for articles about "things."

Figurehead of the Shannon

The Strand - 1891
Figure-Heads
Old Stone Signs of London
Some Curious Inventions
Curing seasickness by means of balloons, a bed that converts to a bath, a ventilated hat, collapsible (and inflatable) crinolines -- these are just a few of the items that demonstrate the imagination of Victorian inventors.
Smugglers' Devices
From hollow legs to hollow coals, smugglers found a host of ingenious ways to bring their wares onto British soil.
Up a Shot Tower
How lead shot is made.
